Privacy Policy
How Subtext Archive collects and handles information about you.
Last updated: 2026-10-31
यह दस्तावेज़ केवल अंग्रेज़ी और जापानी में उपलब्ध है। नीचे अंग्रेज़ी संस्करण दिया गया है।
1. Introduction
Subtext Archive (the "Service") is a web service that collects interpretations of anime films by work and lets readers vote on whether they agree. This policy explains what information the Service collects and how it is handled.
This policy is published in Japanese and English only. It applies to you even if you use the Service in another language.
2. Information we collect
- Account information — the identifier, name, email address and profile image URL we receive from Google when you sign in. We never receive your password. You choose the name and handle shown on the Service; we never display your Google name as is.
- Information you enter — interpretations (text, scenes, conclusion, public headline), your profile (display name, bio, links), URLs of posts you import, URLs of accounts you register for verification, and requests to add works (title, release year, reference URL).
- Votes — which interpretations you voted on and how, the time, and your IP address hashed with a value that changes daily (we do not store the original IP address).
- Watched records — the works you confirmed you have seen. While you are signed out they are stored only in a cookie; while signed in they are recorded to your account.
- Share records — identifiers attached to share links, and the number of visits, votes, sign-ups and posts that came through them.
- Reports and removal requests — report reasons and details; the name, email address, URL and reason in removal requests.
- Inquiries — the email address, name (optional), category and message you send through the contact form.
- Usage data — access timestamps, IP address, user agent and cookies. For posting, editing, visibility changes and reports, we record who did it, when, the IP address and the user agent.
3. How we use it
- Providing the Service (creating, displaying and sharing interpretations, lists by work and scene, counting votes)
- Preventing abuse (detecting abnormal votes, limiting posts, preventing impersonation and reposting)
- Handling reports and removal requests, and investigating and acting on violations
- Verifying ownership of imported interpretations
- Replying to and handling your inquiries
- Responding to legal procedures (such as requests to disclose sender information)
- Serving advertising (Section 7)
4. Content you make public
Public interpretations can be read by anyone, including people who are not signed in. Unlisted interpretations can be read by anyone with the link. Anonymous interpretations do not show the writer's name.
Nobody, including the writer, can see who voted or how. Writers and our team see vote counts; readers see only the agreement ratio.
To ask for removal, use the report link on the interpretation page or, if you do not have an account, the removal request page.
5. Use of AI
The Service uses AI provided by Anthropic, PBC (United States) for the purposes below. We never send account information such as your name or email address.
- Content checks — when interpretations or profiles are saved or published, their content is sent to check that it is not clearly inappropriate (harassment of a specific person, sexual content, hate, encouragement of violence, illegal activity or spam).
- Writing aids — when you press a button asking for AI suggestions on the writing, import or share screens, the work title, text, scenes and conclusion are sent. Private drafts are included. Nothing is sent unless you press a button, and suggestions are not saved unless you use them and save.
- Scene grouping — when an interpretation is published, its scenes (place, event, people, start of quotes) and the names of existing scene groups are sent to group interpretations of the same scene.
- What is sent is handled under Anthropic's privacy policy (https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy).
6. Fetching external pages
When you import an interpretation or verify an account, our servers fetch the page at the URL you entered. The page is used only to extract text and check links, and is not stored.
7. Advertising
The Service shows Google AdSense ads on the top page, work page lists, public interpretation pages and writer profiles. Ads are not shown on the watched-confirmation screen, unlisted pages, or writing, settings and admin screens.
Google and other third-party vendors may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google's Ads Settings (https://www.google.com/settings/ads).
If you access the Service from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent to advertising and measurement cookies through a Google-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP). If you decline, you will see non-personalized advertising instead. You can change your choice at any time.
If you access the Service from certain U.S. states, the same mechanism provides the choices required regarding the "sale" and "sharing" of personal information.
The information sent for advertising and where it goes are listed on the External transmission page.
8. Sharing and processors
We do not share your information with third parties except as required by law. We do rely on the following processors to operate the Service:
- Google LLC — sign-in, advertising, consent management, and font delivery (when displaying Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, or Arabic)
- Cloudflare, Inc. — hosting, database, and file storage
- Anthropic, PBC — checking content with AI (Section 5)
- Plus Five Five, Inc. (Resend) — sending the email that notifies us of a new inquiry (it includes your email address, name, and message)
9. Retention
- Interpretations and profiles are kept until you delete them or delete your account.
- In records of posting, editing, reports and similar actions, IP addresses and user agents are deleted after 6 months. The records themselves (who did what and when) are kept to handle violations and legal procedures.
- Hashed IP addresses used for voting are kept with the vote records.
- Import drafts are deleted after 24 hours, and records of AI usage after 35 days.
10. Deleting your account and exporting data
Deleting your account removes your profile, linked accounts, private interpretations, votes and watched records. For public and unlisted interpretations, you choose to delete them or keep them anonymously, unlinked from you.
You can export your interpretations before deleting your account (My interpretations → Delete account / export).
For accounts suspended for violations, we keep the identifier to prevent re-registration with the same Google account.
11. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction on the use of the personal data we hold about you. Contact us at the address below.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR and UK GDPR additionally give you the right to data portability, to restrict processing, and to object to processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.
12. Cookies
- Sign-in — necessary for the Service; if you block it you cannot sign in.
- Watched records — remembers the works you confirmed you have seen while signed out, and is used for nothing else.
- Share visits — remembers for one day that you came from a share link, to count later votes, sign-ups and posts toward that share.
- Display settings — remembers your language and banners you closed.
- Drafts — your unsaved interpretation is kept automatically in your browser (local storage). It is not sent to the Service, is removed when you save, and is discarded after 30 days.
- For advertising cookies, see Section 7.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the updated text and its revision date on this page.
