Terms of Service

The terms that apply when you use Subtext Archive.

Last updated: 2026-10-12

Dit document is alleen beschikbaar in het Engels en het Japans. Hieronder staat de Engelse versie.

1. Scope

These terms set out the conditions for using Subtext Archive (the "Service"), a web service that collects interpretations of anime films by work and lets readers vote on whether they agree. By using the Service, you agree to these terms.

These terms are provided in Japanese and English only. They apply even if you use the Service in another language.

2. Accounts

  • Posting and voting require signing in with a Google account. Reading public interpretations does not.
  • You must be at least 13 to create an account (16 in the European Economic Area and the UK).
  • You are responsible for your account. Do not let others use it.
  • The Service is free of charge.

3. Interpretations you post

  • **Post only interpretations you wrote yourself. Interpretations written by AI (such as generative AI) are not allowed.** The writing aids (conclusion ideas, scene candidates, headline ideas) only suggest; you decide whether to use them.
  • **Images cannot be posted,** including images or screenshots of the work. Images are not imported from external posts either.
  • When quoting lines, scenes or song lyrics, quote only the short part your interpretation needs, so that your interpretation stays the main part. When quoting lyrics, always give the song title as the source (and the lyricist if you know it). Quoted lyrics are limited to a short passage (up to 60 characters, or 30 full-width characters such as Japanese).
  • Interpretations here are for people who have seen the film. Do not describe events or the ending in public headlines (shown on X and in link previews). Fold content from the original work, sequels or other works.
  • You choose visibility (public, unlisted, private) and whether to be named or anonymous. Public interpretations can be read by anyone, including people who are not signed in.
  • Do not import or repost other people's interpretations. Imports are limited to interpretations you posted elsewhere yourself.
  • You keep the copyright of what you post, and you grant the Service permission to use it as needed to provide the Service (display, lists and scene groups, link previews and search).

4. Voting

  • Votes are for people who have seen the film and read the interpretation. Nobody, including the writer, can see who voted or how.
  • Do not distort agreement ratios, for example by voting with multiple accounts, voting on request or for reward, or voting by automated means. Abnormal votes may be excluded from the count.

5. Prohibited conduct

  • Violating laws or public order
  • Posting harassment, discriminatory language or sexual content about specific people, including creators, voice actors and other writers
  • Attacking a specific writer in your text (the Service has no place for rebuttals)
  • Impersonating others
  • Infringing third-party rights (copyright, publicity, privacy, etc.)
  • Posting for advertising or to drive traffic elsewhere
  • Interfering with the Service or accessing it excessively by automated means
  • Invalid clicks on ads or inflating impressions
  • Copying, modifying or reverse engineering the Service

6. Reports, removal requests and enforcement

We accept reports on public interpretations (sign-in required) and removal requests from people without an account. A report alone does not hide anything, but if several users report harassment or discrimination, we may hide the interpretation temporarily until we review it.

After review, we may hide an interpretation, edit its text (for example, fold content from other works) or exclude votes from the count. When we hide an interpretation, we show the reason to the writer, who may appeal once.

For violations, we may issue a warning, restrict posting for a period, or suspend the account. Suspended accounts cannot sign in, all of their interpretations are hidden, and the same Google account cannot register again.

7. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time (My interpretations → Delete account / export). Your profile, linked accounts, private interpretations and votes are deleted. For public and unlisted interpretations, you choose to delete them or keep them anonymously.

You can export your interpretations before deleting your account.

8. Disclaimer

  • The Service is provided as is, without warranty of fitness for a particular purpose or continuous availability.
  • We are not liable for damages caused by interruptions, data loss or delays.
  • Disputes about the content of interpretations are to be resolved between the parties involved.
  • Agreement ratios are totals of users' votes and do not indicate whether an interpretation is correct.

9. Changes to the Service

We may change or end the Service. If we end it, we will give notice in advance where possible and provide a period for exporting interpretations.

10. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute concerning the Service is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Kobe District Court as the court of first instance.

11. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we will post the new version and its date on this page.
